Roy and Ed's Dance Music??

For the final scene in Chapter 14 I had to find a piece of music that would suit the mood just right. Granted, this was roughly in the late teens, early 1920's in Amestris---Jazz at that time was a bit more syncopated. I decided to take the liberty and use something from a later era--"Moonlight Serenade"

My parents were both jazz and swing lovers--my mom's favorites were Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman. "Moonlight Serenade" is one of Miller's most famous songs--a slow, dreamy instrumental perfect for a slow dance.

For the curious--here it is...and imagine a dark juke joint lit up only by the glow of a vintage jukebox....

Beautiful choice of music for a wonderful chapter!
This song was the first and last I danced with my dad, so it is really dear to me!

Really? Then I'm so glad I chose it. Being a musician I find that music propels me when I write--I admit that when I was writing the scene with Winry in fury I was listening to Alanis Morisette's "You Ought To Know"--a song that I admit to listening to when I caught my husband cheating with another man's wife years before. And Al's theme is "Defying Gravity" from "Wicked"---Al is only now reaching his stride as a person--he's fallen, failed, been seduced, gone hungry and suffered...and proudly survived and NOW is ready to set sail with Ed...because he's a whole person at last.

yes, my first time was when I was 3 and my last at my wedding at 27 (my dad died six months later)

wow, a musician! I envy you, I don't have time now to play anything but it is relaxing listening to my daughter playing the violin!
Ummm what other good choices but what -i really like is your explanation about the choice!

I'm a blues/jazz/rock vocalist who does a lot of comedy material--I've written a lot of anime-inspired material including about 25 or so FMA songs and an FMA comic mini opera that is on YouTube about Roy Mustang. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDycbie9HeU) I've also done some serious FMA songs, the most recent is the Brothers Suite: Edward ('The Hero With A Thousand Faces") and Alphonse ("The Soul Within The Steel") plus Hohenheim's song, "Sins of the Father". Ed's song has already migrated to Canada after I performed it in Pittsburgh a few weeks ago at a con.
I've also done music for Death Note, Bleach, Saiyuki, Black Butler and quite a few other shows. Music is my drug of choice!

wow, truly an artist!

thanks for the video, it seemed you all had a good time at the con!

We were going to do it again this year with a new show--of course doing Miniskirt again--but my brother's brain surgery was originally scheduled around that time so we opted out this year...which gives me time to write some Hetalia songs...!

<3333333333 This music is perfect for Roy and Ed to dance to!!! :D I went back and reread the last part of chapter 14 while this played. Loved it!!! I've played this like 20 times already! Who knew a rock and roll girl like me would like jazz! ^_^ I've heard this piece of music many many times before and never knew who played it. Thanks for posting this!! :D

I'm a hard core rocker from the cradle but I've been exposed to so many types of music--I didn't care for swing as a kid but later got into it quite a bit. This music is so perfect for that moment. Mom just loved Glenn Miller. I got exposed from the beginning to jazz, swing, Big Band, Opera and broadway musicals. On my own I discovered Celtic, World Beat, Folk, Filk--which I play--rock,swing revival, rockabilly and DA BLUES!!

Ah, this is one of my all time favourite tracks! And I can just imagine Ed and Roy dancing to it! *melts*

It seemed so perfect....and I'm surprised at how many people still love it.

I think it's still one of the most romantic songs ever.

I LOVE this piece. And now, part of me will always call those two to mind when I hear it.

Me too--and imagine the rainbow lights of an old Wurlizer jukebox, flicking in the darkness--Ed's hair catching the lights....mmmmm....Thank you, Glenn Miller!!

Thanks for posting this. I've heard the song befor, but not had a chance to listen to the whole thing in a long time. Makes me want to listen to my jazz CDs again.
