Screw this birthday shit. I just made myself a reservation at the KOA for a lakefront  camper cabin (power and a/c, no bathroom or water--but that's cool. My fave cabin, K3, became miraculously available. I will drive up Thursday after work and stay Friday night leaving Sat. AM.
I need this. I need Mother Ocean and salt air and long walks and seashells--and the famous Banana French toast at my favorite beach bar for breakfast.
Here's some views of the campsite:
and I'm just about 15 min from the beach!

That looks lovely! I think you have some good forces at your side, helping you get your favorite cabin. And hopefully more nice things are in store for you there: extra special sunsets, meeting new people or just total relaxation with sand between your toes and wind in you hair? That sandwich sounds delicious, btw.

This is my run-away-from-home home--it's plain as hell--bare log walls and a platform for my sleeping bag and an A/C/Heater and a ceiling fan...but I've had more joyful moments in this place. Dolphin watching off Fort Moultrie, night swimming on the Isle of Palms...Coconut Joe's Beach Bar for the best breakfast anywhere...the Carolina Coast is a very important part of my life, even if I have to drive further now. And at night I can sit by the fire and sing and nobody will be disturbed....

the area there looks gorgeous, I'm jealous. I'd have problems with the no bathroom part, but that's me. but for that view, I'd go without.

Fortunately, the bathhouse and flush toilets is right across the driveway. And KOA's big draw is they GUARANTEE clean hot showers at every location--and they are heavenly! This KOA is on an old Charleston plantation...and it's haunted. The "Haints" do silly things like flipping the lights on and off and banging on the roof but they are never malicious. I place an offering of food and drink and light a candle for them--basically, I tell them, "yes, I acknowledge you" and other than the odd lights snapping on and off they don't upset me. There have been people who freak and run like hell...but Charleston is full of ghosts. When I wrote "Beggar's Banquet" I made Alphonse Heiderich a friendly spirit that haunts the Battery Carriage House because there's allegedly a broken piece of one of Hohenheim's Gate Stones laid into the cobblestone foundation --that is how Envy and Gluttony got to this side. I meant to have Hughes flush Envy back down the toilet...didn't end up like that, though!

I can't say I wouldn't freak and run in the moment, but I'd hope I wouldn't. I've never had a moment that I know of, if I did, well, then I must have not been paying enough attention, or they weren't trying to scare me *shrug*

I've never been to a KOA. been next to a bunch of them over the years, but we've never stayed at any of them.

I like them better than hotels when I travel--I also camp in State Parks and such--but their camper cabins seriously rock

most of the places we go, we've either got family that'll put us up, or we're going somewhere with so many people, its cheaper to rent on huge house and split the cost that trying to find a place with enough rooms.

for example, this summer, me, my parents, my three brothers, their wives and children (between the three of them, I have 5 niece's and nephews) are going down to Orlando for a week.

lets not even try to count the people when we have a big family vacation, where my dads siblings get together and have a vacation. my dad has 6 siblings, whether or not they all come along....

and that's only three of my dads siblings family's. and my parents and oldest brother. imagine the space we'd have to find if they all showed up.

Whoahhhh--I'm impressed! My grandmother came from a family of 14 kids...they had to build two Victorian houses side by side and link 'em with a walkway--Honest!

I believe it.

my dad parents bought/built a house with...technically three bedrooms, 4 if you counted the sub basement level, cause it's a split level.

that house is now my dads youngest brothers house, though we still go over there for Christmas and Easter, just like we did when I was little and it was my grandparents house.

...amd replenish! I'll also spend some time prowling the old city, savoring the architechture...and burying my toes in some very lovely white sand!

Sounds like Someone saw you needed a special treat.

It sounds like a great place, too!
