Taiyaki Two--for Sexkitten--do it yourself! WITH NUTELLA!!

Every tried to make it at home? Here's how to do it--
The taiyaki pans are about $8 in asian stores/markets but a bit more online. I got mine at Super H Mart in Atlanta.
She's using Bisquick shake-n-pour--I use waffle mix--Belgian if I can get it--and it works better with a slightly thinner batter--hers is too thick.
She's also glopping in waaay too much filling--I like the cheese idea, tho'. A little less filling works best.
Gas stoves work best of all--I have a ceramic cook top and that does not lend itself to good Taiyaki---so I use either the gas burner on the grill or a little single-burner that I keep with my camping gear. I am interested in trying it ON the grill itself, although the handles could melt if you aren't careful...

Mmmm.. tempting... I just realized this is something my mom can't really have anymore, though, so I wouldn't feel right making them at home :(

Is she diabetic? There are other ways to make them. Use a low-carb pancake mix and fat free-sugar free Jello pudding or even apple sauce. It would be fun to experiment for her.

Yeah, she was just diagnosed at the start of the year. We're still working out what she can and can't eat, but right now it seems like very few simple carbs. We haven't tried low-carb pancake mix yet. And unfortunately her favorite filling in the anko, and even if you make it with artificial sweetener there's not much you can do to take the carbs out of the beans.

Hmm--an interesting mix is part anko part sugar free strawberry jam or crushed fresh berries. Tastes pretty good, actually. The ice cream taiyaki have a little strawberry mixed in with the anko. I'd say the serving per 1 taiyaki would be about, at the most, two level tablespoons of anko filling and the waffle part would be probably about 2 starch exchanges.
