When I was a kid I LOVED my mom's Bill Cosby records--and if I can tell a story at all it's because I listened to this kind of genius.
This is part of his most brilliant tale, "Chicken Heart". The scene: Little Bill has been left to stay home while his parents go out for the evening. He's been BAD before, watching monster movies and listening to scary stuff on the radio and scaring the crap out of himself---so badly that one night he even smeared Jello all over the kitchen floor to trip the monsters that came after him--which caused his dad to slip and hurt himself. Mom has put Bill to bed with the warning not to listen to "Lights Out"--telling him that invisible snakes will bite him if he tries to get out of bed.
Having proven this to be total bullshit--he creeps over to the radio....and turns on "Lights Out..."
Seriously--if you are a writer---you NEED to hear this!!!
